North Korea has launched a new factory dedicated to producing materials used in the development of nuclear weapons, according to state media, as leader Kim Jong Un pledged to further strengthen the country’s nuclear arsenal.
The announcement was made by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), which said the facility is equipped with modern technology designed to increase production capacity.

Authorities did not disclose where the facility is located or when it officially began operations. However, photographs released by state media showed a large industrial hall containing rows of centrifuge machines widely believed to be used in the enrichment of uranium, a key component in nuclear weapons production.
Kim Jong Un personally toured the facility and received briefings from officials on its current operations and long-term production plans, KCNA reported.
During the visit, Kim stressed the need to expand North Korea’s nuclear capabilities, arguing that the country faces growing security challenges from what he described as pressure and military threats led by the United States and South Korea.
“There is a need to strengthen our nuclear deterrent steadily,” KCNA quoted Kim as saying during the inspection.
The latest development comes as North Korea continues to advance its nuclear and missile programs despite years of international sanctions aimed at curbing its weapons ambitions.
Pyongyang has repeatedly argued that its nuclear arsenal is necessary for self-defense. At the same time, the United States, South Korea, and their allies maintain that the program poses a serious threat to regional and global security.
The new facility is expected to raise fresh concerns among international observers, particularly as North Korea has accelerated weapons testing and military modernization efforts in recent years.
Analysts say the public release of images from the plant appears intended to demonstrate the country’s growing nuclear capacity and send a political message to its rivals that North Korea has no intention of abandoning its atomic weapons program.
The announcement also comes at a time when diplomatic engagement between Pyongyang and Washington remains largely frozen, with no major negotiations on denuclearization currently underway.
