The Tanzania government has announced plans to create more than 52,000 jobs in public institutions as part of its 2026/2027 budget, aiming to improve service delivery and address staffing gaps.
Presenting the budget in Parliament in Dodoma, Minister of State in the President’s Office for Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ridhiwani Kikwete, said a total of 52,124 positions will be filled across 425 institutions.
Of these, 45,000 will be new jobs, while 7,124 positions will serve as replacements for employees who have exited public service. The move is part of broader efforts to strengthen workforce capacity across multiple sectors and enhance efficiency in service delivery to citizens.
Ridhiwani said the government will also process employment permits to meet staffing demands in key public institutions, ensuring that critical roles are filled in a timely manner.
In addition, the President’s Office for Public Service Management plans to verify and clean up employee records in 127 institutions using the e-Watumishi system. The exercise is intended to boost transparency and efficiency in public service management.
The minister also noted that the government will review and approve outstanding salary arrears claims for public servants, addressing long-standing payment issues.
Meanwhile, support services will continue to be provided to 21 retired top leaders, including 10 former officials and 11 widows, in accordance with the law.
