The Iranian state media claimed his death on Monday identifying Majid Khademi as chief of IRGC’s dreaded intelligence organization but without stating any precise details as of where he met his death.
Multiple reports by regional and international news have, however, reported Khademi’s killing in a U.S.-Israeli operation bombing locations in and around the capital Tehran as part of sustained attacks targeting Iran’s elite military and intelligence brass.
“American-Zionist enemy carried out a terrorist operation in early morning which resulted in the death of a commander of the IRGC intelligence force,” said the IRGC on Monday stating that Khademi died in the attack.
Khademi was appointed as chief of the IRGC intelligence in 2025 following the death of his predecessor in previous strikes further highlighting that Iran’s top security commanders have been attacked repeatedly during the ongoing war.
His killing has been described as a serious setback for the country’s intelligence and internal security organizations and analysts fear it could create significant disruption to command structures and potentially instigate strong retribution from Iran.
The killing comes during a period of intensifying hostilities between the Islamic Republic and a coalition led by the United States, and a spate of assassinations targeting prominent Iranians had already began to alter its leadership structures.
Tehran has vowed “devastating” retribution for the strike, spurring concerns of broader escalation across the region.
