Africa is the world’s second-largest and second-most populous continent, covering approximately 20% of Earth’s total land area. It is a land of immense geographic and cultural diversity, home to 54 recognized sovereign states and over 1,000 distinct languages. Often referred to as the “Cradle of Humankind,” Africa holds a unique place in global history as the origin of the human species. Today, it is characterized by its youthful population and its role as a critical frontier for global economic growth, digital innovation, and environmental sustainability.

The continent is governed collectively through the African Union (AU), which promotes a vision of an integrated, prosperous, and peaceful Africa driven by its own citizens. Economically, Africa is home to some of the world’s fastest-growing markets and holds the majority of the planet’s strategic mineral reserves, including cobalt, copper, and gold. Through initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the continent is working to create the world’s largest unified market, fostering intra-African trade and industrialization. From the Mediterranean coasts of the North to the industrial hubs of the South, and from the Atlantic ports of the West to the “Silicon Savannah” of the East, Africa remains a central pillar of the global community and a vital leader in the multipolar world.
