Bollywood actor Salman Khan is set to move into a new high-security residence, bringing to an end more than 50 years of living at his family’s famous Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai.
The move comes more than two years after gunmen opened fire outside the apartment complex in an attack that shocked India’s film industry and prompted authorities to strengthen the actor’s security.
On April 14, 2024, two men riding a motorcycle fired several rounds outside Galaxy Apartments, where Khan and his family have lived for decades. Police recovered multiple bullet casings from the scene and immediately launched a major investigation into the shooting.
Shortly after the attack, a message believed to have been issued by Anmol Bishnoi claimed responsibility. Investigators subsequently focused on possible links between the suspects and the Bishnoi gang, which has repeatedly been associated with threats against the Bollywood star.
No one was injured in the shooting, but the incident marked the most serious attack yet in a long-running security threat surrounding Khan.
According to Indian media reports, security at Galaxy Apartments was significantly upgraded in the months that followed. In 2025, reports said bullet-resistant glass had been installed around part of the apartment’s balcony as authorities sought to improve protection against any future attacks.
The criminal case over the 2024 shooting remains before the courts. During recent proceedings, members of Khan’s security team testified that they believed the attack appeared to be an attempt to seriously injure or kill the actor.
Authorities have also continued investigating the alleged involvement of members of the Bishnoi gang, with several arrests made since the shooting. Prosecutors argue that the attack was carefully planned, while the accused continues to face multiple criminal charges related to the incident.
Khan has rarely spoken publicly about the threats against him, but his security has been substantially increased over the past few years. He is now protected by armed personnel during public appearances, and access to his residence has become far more restricted than before.
His decision to build a new home is widely seen as the latest step in adapting to the heightened security risks that have surrounded one of India’s biggest film stars.
For generations of fans, Galaxy Apartments has been closely associated with Salman Khan, who famously greeted supporters from its balcony during festivals and on his birthday. The move to a newly built, heavily secured residence marks the end of an era while reflecting the security challenges that have increasingly shaped the actor’s personal life.
