Police in the UK said officers from Thames Valley Police have arrested a 60-year-old Norfolk man on suspicion of misconduct in public office about documentation and allegations linked to recently published Epstein documents. The man has widely been named as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew. He was arrested on his 66th birthday at his home in Norfolk and is being held as police continue to search properties in Norfolk and Berkshire.
Police stated the inquiry concerns claims relating to the performance of duties when acting as a trade envoy to the UK, and for passing secret British documents to Epstein associates, as suggested within cable and email correspondence to have emerged in recently released documents.
This is only one of two cases involving a senior member of the royal family being held by the police, and after the arrest, Sir Keir Starmer, the UK prime minister, said ‘nobody is above the law’ and ‘justice must take its course.’ The king also reiterated his full support for all official investigations to take their course.
He has not yet been charged, and the precise charges are still under review by the Crown Prosecution Service.
