William Samoei Arap Ruto is the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya, elected in 2022. Born in 1966 in Uasin Gishu County, Ruto famously rose from a humble “hustler” background, selling chickens to support his education, eventually earning a PhD in Plant Ecology. His political career includes serving as a Member of Parliament and as Deputy President (2013–2022). Ruto’s “Bottom-Up” economic model focuses on empowering small-scale traders and farmers. He is a master of grassroots mobilization and currently plays a central role in mediation efforts and economic reform across the East African region.
