The island remains at the center of geopolitical tensions due to China’s claim over Taiwan and growing international concerns about regional security in the Indo-Pacific.
Taiwan says it is a sovereign democratic nation and not part of China after President Donald Trump warned the island against formally declaring independence during his visit to Beijing.
