Angola’s President Lourenço Brokers Peace Push for Eastern DRC

Angola’s president João Lourenço has convened high-level talks in Luanda, pushing for an immediate ceasefire in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo as fighting with M23 drags on.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame sharply criticised international threats and accusations over his country’s role in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) conflict, asserting that Kigali will defend its sovereignty and reject blame while insisting on self-reliance.

The African Union (AU) has strongly condemned a recent drone attack on Kisangani Airport in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) claimed by the M23 rebel movement, warning that the strike may amount to terrorism and calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities to protect civilians and restore fragile peace efforts.
