John Magufuli

John Pombe Magufuli was a Tanzanian politician who served as the fifth President of Tanzania from 2015 until his death in 2021. Born in Chato in 1959, Magufuli became widely known for his strict leadership style, anti-corruption campaigns, and major infrastructure projects. Before becoming president, he served in several ministerial positions and earned the nickname “The Bulldozer” for his tough approach to public works and governance. His presidency attracted both praise for economic development and criticism over restrictions on political freedoms, media, and opposition activities. He is considered as one of the most loved and cherished Tanzanian presidents after Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere, nation’s founder.
