Aliko Dangote (born April 10, 1957) is a Nigerian billionaire industrialist and the founder, chairman, and CEO of Dangote Group, West Africa’s largest industrial conglomerate. For over a decade, he has consistently held the title of Africa’s richest person. His business empire spans multiple critical sectors, including cement manufacturing, sugar refining, salt, flour, and most notably, energy and petrochemicals.

By May 2026, Dangote’s influence on the African economy has reached a historic peak following the full-scale operational success of the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Lekki, Nigeria. This $20 billion facility has effectively transformed Nigeria from a fuel-importing nation into a major regional exporter of refined petroleum products, significantly impacting the continent’s energy security and foreign exchange dynamics.
