ARUSHA, Tanzania – The President of Republic of Uganda H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, arrived at the Kilimanjaro International Airport on Friday. He is attending the 25th Ordinary Summit of the East African Community Heads of State. The summit is due to be held on March 7, 2026, in Arusha.
The Summit, to be held at the headquarters of the EAC, will see heads of states meet. They will discuss issues of economic integration. They will also talk about regional security and trade cooperation among East Africa member states.
President Museveni was met at the airport in northern Tanzania by the home affairs minister, Patrobas Katambi. Other high-ranking officials from both the government and diplomatic circle were also present.
The government issued a statement. The president traveled to Tanzania to attend the summit of the East African Community Heads of State. This summit will be one of the major meetings within the East African bloc calendar. The heads of state summit is a key event. It is where heads of states converge to check the development of integration activities in the EAC.
The eight members of EAC are Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Somalia recently joined the bloc as a new member.
Regional trade under the EAC common market will be under review. Issues of infrastructure that are vital to fostering economic ties in the East African region shall be part of the agenda. Regional political challenges will also be included. Security will be addressed as well.
The Ugandan president is a staunch proponent of stronger integration within East Africa. He has often called for the enhancement of economic partnership between EAC members in the past. He is one of the many leaders to land in Tanzania for the summit. Delegations from many countries have already started to jet in Arusha. Arrangements at the headquarters are already underway as per sources in the EAC secretariat.
