Tanzania Says 203 Citizens Deported From Foreign Countries Over Immigration Violations

At least 203 Tanzanians have been returned home from different countries after being found to have violated immigration laws, including entering or staying in foreign states without proper legal documentation.

The figures were announced on May 25, 2026, by Tanzania’s Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, while presenting the ministry’s budget in Parliament in Dodoma.

Katambi said the repatriations took place between July 2025 and April 2026 as governments across different countries intensified enforcement measures against undocumented migrants and foreigners living without valid permits.

According to the minister, the Tanzanian government has continued cooperating with both local and international authorities to ensure immigration procedures are properly followed.

He did not immediately name the countries from which the Tanzanians were returned, but said the move was part of wider immigration law enforcement efforts being carried out internationally.

The update comes as several African and Middle Eastern countries continue tightening migration controls amid growing concerns over undocumented workers, overstayed visas, and cross-border human trafficking networks.

Katambi also told Parliament that Tanzania’s Immigration Department processed several citizenship-related cases during the same period.

A total of 64 foreign nationals were granted Tanzanian citizenship, while 17 Tanzanians renounced their citizenship after acquiring nationality in other countries in accordance with Tanzania’s Citizenship Act, Chapter 357 of 2023.

Tanzania does not generally recognize dual citizenship for adults, meaning citizens who voluntarily obtain foreign nationality are required under the law to give up their Tanzanian citizenship unless exempted under special provisions.

The latest figures provide a rare official glimpse into migration trends affecting Tanzanians abroad, while also highlighting the government’s growing focus on immigration monitoring and citizenship administration.
