Tanzanian musician Sefu Shabani, popularly known as Matonya widely known in East Africa for his song “Vaileth,” has been arrested and charged in Kenya over allegations of sexual assault.
The artist appeared before a court in Mombasa on Thursday, where he denied the charge of sexually assaulting a woman.
The court granted him bail set at 500,000 Kenyan shillings (about $3,800) and ordered that he must not leave the country without permission.
Authorities have not released further details about the alleged incident, and the case is expected to proceed in court as investigations continue.
The development marks a significant legal challenge for the artist, who remains in Kenya pending further hearings.
