The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has announced the death of the veteran Member of Parliament for Isimani constituency and the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s office.
In a press release issued today, the statement announced that William Vangimembe Lukuvi succumbed to heart attack after receiving medical treatment in Benjamin Mkapa hospital yesterday, March 25, 2026, at around 7:00am. The statement has been released by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and is signed by Chief Secretary Moses Kusiluka.

Lukuvi was the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s office and had responsibilities covering Policy, Parliamentary affairs, Coordination and issues affecting persons with disabilities. He had represented Isimani constituency in Iringa region for various years.
He had been a fixture in Tanzanian politics for several decades, holding numerous ministerial positions including minister for lands, housing and human settlements development where he presided over land reforms and housing policies.
He had also held cabinet positions in other ministries during successive governments. Known for his no-nonsense approach on matters policy implementation, Lukuvi had also served as minister for livestock and fisheries.
In the past few years, his work in the office of the Prime minister allowed him to manage issues pertaining to government coordination and parliamentary affairs. He also played a vital role in the policy implementation concerning people with disabilities.
Tanzanian president, Dr. Samia Suluhu has sent her condolence message to the Speaker of Parliament, family members, relatives of the deceased, Isimani residents and the nation at large.
The government is expected to release details regarding the funeral ceremony and national memorial service.
