Chappell Roan said she is no longer represented by the Wasserman talent agency after recent documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice showed its founder, Casey Wasserman, had email exchanges with Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted associate of Jeffrey Epstein.
The 27-year-old Grammy-winning singer posted on social media that she made the move because she believes artists deserve representation that matches their values and keeps their teams safe. She said no artist or employee should be expected to overlook actions that conflict with deeply held moral standards.
Roan did not mention Epstein directly in her message, but she linked her decision explicitly to the recent file release. The documents include flirtatious email exchanges between Wasserman and Maxwell from 2003. Wasserman has apologised, saying the correspondence happened long before Maxwell’s crimes were known and denying any personal or business relationship with Epstein himself.
The agency Wasserman leads represents many major artists and sports figures. Roan’s departure is one of the highest-profile responses so far. Other artists and bands have also criticised the agency or said they are considering their options in the wake of the revelations.
Wasserman is also chairman of the organising committee for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, a role that has come under additional scrutiny as a result of the wider fallout.
The full impact on the agency and its wider roster is still developing as the controversy continues to unfold.
