NJOMBE, Tanzania – Maselina Mtewele, a woman aged 50, has been arrested in the Njombe region over accusations that she murdered her husband, Gwido Kigaya aged 59 following an argument between the two at their matrimonial home. The occurrence is said to have taken place at approximately 10pm on 18th March 2026 in Lwangu village, in a homestead where, according to witnesses, Maselina and Gwido had been married for quite some time now and had been involved in domestic differences for years.
Two witnesses, Magnus Mayemba and Albentina Mayemba are quoted to have stated that the two frequently engaged in arguments and on the night of the incidence, a conflict ensued due to a farm implement, the dispute eventually escalating and leading to violence. It is stated that the suspect is believed to have used a Machete (panga) to attack her husband who died of a head injury.
The chairman for Lwangu village Johnbosco Kigae also corroborates the statements, revealing that the two had not been staying together in the marriage though they had tied the knot. “They were in a state of constant disagreement and practically separated while in the marriage since the marital relations were already in disrepair” he added.
The Njombe Regional police Commander Mahamoud Banga has confirmed the story, noting that the suspect is in the custody of police and is being interrogated to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of the deceased.
