U.S. court blocks Trump’s move to end protections for Somali immigrants

US federal judge stops President Trump’s administration move to end Temporary Protected Status for Somali immigrants.
The decision stops an administration policy which was going to strip protections which allow thousands of Somali citizens to live and work in the USA.

Temportaty Protected Status (TPS) is a U.S. Government program of humanitarian aid. The program allows immigrants to live and work in the U.S. For a temporary period when conditions in their home country; like war, civil unrest, or natural disasters-make it dangerous to return.

Somalia has had TPS status for years. The country continues to face years of conflict and instability, leading to severe humanitarian problems making return for many unsafe.

Immigration activists told the court, thousands of Somali families could face deportation and return to the war torn country.

The injunction temporarily stays the termination of TPS pending further legal proceedings in federal court.
