What a story: Bodø/Glimt thrashes Sporting 3-0 as Norwegian underdogs keep UEFA dreams alive

Bodø/Glimt have continued their sensational Champions League campaign tonight with a 3-0 victory over Sporting CP in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg match in Norway.

It has been an astonishing journey through the Champions League this season, and in front of a packed crowd at Aspmyra Stadion. FK Bodø/Glimt took the lead on 32 minutes when Sondre Brunstad Fet scored from the penalty spot following a foul by Georgios Vagiannidis.

The home team extended their lead before half-time through Ole Didrik Blomberg, who bundled home from close range following a deflected pass from Jens Petter Hauge creating a chance.

Sporting looked to get themselves back into the game in the second half, however, Bodø/Glimt, playing with their usual high tempo style, continued to control the game. The third goal came in the 71st minute when Kasper Høgh, after a fine cross from Hauge, deflected his pass into the back of the net for a sensational 3-0 win.

It gives the Norwegians a massive advantage going into the second leg in Lisbon, and one of the most unexpected stories of this Champions League campaign continues.

Nobody would have predicted that Bodø/Glimt would reach this far into the competition but the Norwegian’s continue to surprise all the European elite after sending giants like Manchester City home as well as beating Inter Milan to reach the last 16.

With another famous victory in the bag Bodø/Glimt, the small club from northern Norway, is in the process of creating their own fairy tale of a Champions League story and its unlikely to end soon.
