ABUJA, Nigeria – The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has suspended visa services for all applicants scheduled on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 and warned that protest in the FCT is possible. It comes amidst the US-Israel war against Iran, which is escalating, it has stated.
On its communication platforms on Wednesday, the mission wrote that there was a strong possibility of demonstrations in Abuja as tensions heighten over the war between Iran and its rivals, highlighting the “potential demonstrations,” as part of its concerns. Americans residing in Abuja were urged to “remain at their homes, stay away from the demonstration site and large groups of people and maintain awareness,” during the period.
Affected visa applicants will be notified and given instruction for rescheduling when the situation improves, it added, and encouraged the public to check the Embassy’s official website and social media pages. As the Middle East conflict expands, its repercussions have been noticeable in some Nigerian areas; the city has recorded a string of pro-Iran protests in recent days, with protests by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria taking place in various states calling for solidarity with Iran and denouncing the United States’ and Israel’s actions.
