FIFA

FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) is the international governing body for association football, beach soccer, and futsal. Founded in 1904 and headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, it oversees 211 member associations across six continental confederations. As of May 2026, the organization is led by President Gianni Infantino, who recently celebrated his 10th anniversary in office and has announced his intention to stand for re-election in 2027. FIFA’s primary mission is the global expansion of the game, governed by the “Strategic Objectives for the Global Game: 2023–2027.”

In 2026, FIFA is managing the largest operational undertaking in its history: the FIFA World Cup 26™. This landmark tournament, set to kick off on June 11, 2026, is the first to be hosted by three nations—Canada, Mexico, and the United States—and the first to feature an expanded field of 48 teams and 104 matches. Beyond the men’s flagship event, FIFA is also overseeing the qualification phases for the 32-team FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ in Brazil and the debut of several new youth and club formats. As a tag, FIFA serves as the central hub for reporting on international match results, global football policy, disciplinary rulings, and the commercial evolution of the world’s most widely played sport.
