President Donald Trump isn’t holding back on his feelings about how America handles its elections. In a series of fiery posts on Truth Social and a recent podcast appearance, the President described the current U.S. voting system as “rigged, stolen, and a laughingstock all over the world”.
He warned his followers that if the system isn’t overhauled immediately, the United States “won’t have a country any longer”.
The President is now putting the squeeze on Republicans in Congress to pass the SAVE America Act. This bill is a massive deal: it would force every voter to show a government-issued photo ID and prove they are a U.S. citizen before they can even register . Trump’s plan also takes a swing at mail-in ballots, calling to ban them entirely unless a voter is overseas in the military, disabled, or too ill to make it to the polls.
But the drama doesn’t stop there. Trump also suggested that Republicans should “nationalize” and “take over” the voting process in at least 15 specific areas where he believes things are crooked. While the White House says these are “common-sense” changes that most Americans want, Democrats are calling it a “five-alarm fire.” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries didn’t mince words, accusing the President of trying to “nationalize the election” as a way to “steal it”.
With the 2026 Midterms just around the corner, this fight over who gets to vote and how is turning into the biggest political showdown of the year.
