Robo Shankar
Tamil actor and comedian Robo Shankar has passed away at the age of 46. He died on the evening of September 18, 2025, at GEM Hospital in Chennai after his health suddenly worsened.
Shankar collapsed while filming on a movie set earlier in the week. He was admitted to hospital two days before his death. Doctors found that he was suffering from a severe bleeding in the stomach area, along with multiple organ failure. The actor had previously been treated for jaundice, which had damaged his liver and kidneys.
His family confirmed that he died at around 9:05 pm local time. He is survived by his wife Priyanka and daughter Indraja. Indraja is also known to film fans for her acting work.
Robo Shankar began his career as a mimicry artist, earning his nickname “Robo” for his robot-style dance and mimic performances. He rose to fame through television shows, comedy sketches, and then moved on to films. Some of his well-known movies include Maari, Viswasam, Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, Velaikkaran, Singam 3, and Singapore Saloon. His last film appearance was in Sotta Sotta Nanaiyuthu.
The news of his death has brought deep shock to fans, fellow actors, and political leaders. Many shared their grief publicly. Kamal Haasan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Chief Minister M. K. Stalin were among those who paid tribute. Fans remembered Shankar for his comedy, his warm personality, and the joy he gave to many through his acting.
Shankar’s health had been a concern for some time. After recovering from jaundice, he lost a lot of weight and had been working despite health warnings. Friends say he had pushed through many difficulties to keep performing.
His body will be taken to his home in Valasarvakkam, Chennai, for last rites. Many are expected to attend the ceremony to honour his life and work.
