Miami-based influencer Ashlee Jenae has died in Tanzania after being found hanging in her hotel room in Zanzibar, police said, with investigations ongoing into the circumstances.
Police in North Unguja, Zanzibar, confirmed the American national identified as Ashy Robinson, widely known as Ashlee Jenae was discovered by a hotel staff member on April 8, 2026, in Nungwi.

According to North Unguja Regional Police Commander Benedict Mapujila, the influencer was found hanging inside her room while a hotel attendant was carrying out routine cleaning.
The staff member raised an alarm immediately after the discovery, prompting a response that led to Ashlee being rushed to hospital while still alive but in critical condition.
“She was found hanging by a hotel attendant, who called for help and she was taken to hospital,” Mapujila said in an interview with Millard Ayo TV.
Ashlee died the following day, April 9, while receiving treatment.
Her body remains in Zanzibar pending a post-mortem examination as authorities continue investigating the cause of death.
“Her body is still here, and investigations are ongoing. If not yesterday, then today a post-mortem should have been conducted,” Mapujila added.
Police said initial findings indicate no immediate arrests have been made.
Ashlee had been traveling in Tanzania with her fiancé, Joe McCann, but authorities confirmed he was not in the hotel room at the time of the incident.
“He has not been arrested because he was not present when she was found,” Mapujila said, noting that investigations are still underway.
Social media posts reviewed after her death show the couple had recently gotten engaged during a trip in Tanzania, sharing moments from what appeared to be a tourism visit.
The incident occurred in Nungwi, a popular coastal destination in Zanzibar known for attracting international tourists.
Authorities have not yet released further details on what may have led to the incident, with the case remaining under active investigation.
