Technically, a man’s heart is controlled by GREED and FEAR. While these terms are often viewed negatively, they represent two of the most powerful neurobiological drivers that govern human survival and achievement.
The Neurobiological Engine
Technically, these two forces correspond to the brain’s reward and survival systems.
Greed (The Dopamine Loop): Greed is the hyper-extension of the Reward System. When we pursue something; can be wealth, status, or a goal, the brain releases dopamine. This creates a seeking behavior. In a technical sense, greed is the drive to acquire resources to ensure future security and reproductive success.
Fear (The Amygdala Response): Fear is the activation of the Survival System. It is the biological mechanism designed to protect what we already have. It triggers the Fight or Flight response, ensuring we avoid loss, pain, or social exclusion.
In Economic perspective (Tug-of-War)
In fields like Forex and stock trading, these two emotions create the market cycle. The Heart of the market and the individual participant is constantly oscillating between the desire to gain (Greed) and the instinct to survive (Fear). Technical mastery in any field often requires emotional regulation to prevent these two forces from overriding rational logic.
The Trio-Temptation Framework
Looking at this through a socio-economic lens, these forces often manifest in what can be called the Trio-temptations of human conduct as I have already explained in one of the previous opinions. That are;
Gratification: Seeking immediate pleasure (the engine of Greed).
Possession: The desire to own and control resources (the result of Greed).
Protection (Faith Vs. Anxiety): The struggle to maintain what is possessed against the threat of loss (the domain of Fear).
The Philosophical Balance
While the statement suggests these forces control a man, the goal of personal development is usually to move from being controlled by them to utilizing them.
Regulated Greed becomes Ambition: The healthy drive to improve one’s circumstances.
Regulated Fear becomes Prudence: The wisdom to manage risk and avoid unnecessary danger.
Without greed, there is no progress or innovation. Without fear, there is no caution or longevity. Technically, they are the Gas and the Brakes of the human experience.
Do you see these forces as primarily destructive, or can they be harnessed as tools for growth?…..Drop your comment!😉
