Airtel Tanzania on Thursday launched VSOMO mobile service in partnership with Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA). This service provides digitized lessons in technical subjects, including theory and mechanics, allowing learners to get course content wherever and whenever they choose.
Speaking during a press briefing at Dodoma, the Director General of VETA stated that the service would allow them to learn modules on theory through their cellphones and go for practice lessons at VETA campuses. This method is cost-effective, saves time that is spent outside communities, and increases access for many in the country.
They said the VSOMO is also one of their efforts to have flexible, inclusive technical and vocational training, as after the online courses, the participants sit for examinations and obtain certificates in respective trades that help their chances of employment or entrepreneurship.
The initiative is set to increase the chances for many Tanzanians to improve their technical know-how in places that lack easy access to classroom settings.
