Canada’s Mikael Kingsbury claimed silver at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Games, finishing just behind the gold medal winner in a tight moguls final.

The 33-year-old entered the event as one of the favorites. He delivered a strong run in the final round, clean through the bumps and sharp in the air. The landing was steady. The speed was there. But it was not enough for gold.

Kingsbury, one of the most decorated freestyle skiers in history, had been chasing another Olympic title after winning gold at Beijing 2022 and silver at PyeongChang 2018. This time, he had to settle for second place.

The event took place at the Winter Games co-hosted by Italy in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Cold conditions and a fast course tested every skier. A few athletes struggled with landings. Others lost time on the turns. Kingsbury stayed composed through both jumps, earning high marks for execution.

When the scores came in, he sat in first briefly. Then the final competitor edged ahead.

Kingsbury raised his arms anyway. He smiled. The crowd responded.

Speaking after the event, he said he was proud of the run and proud to stand on the podium again. He did not dwell on what could have been cleaner. He focused on the medal around his neck.

For Canada, the silver adds to its freestyle skiing record at the Winter Games. Kingsbury has carried the sport for more than a decade, dominating World Cups and major championships. Even now, younger skiers are chasing his standard.

The moguls field continues to get tighter. Margins are thin. One small mistake can shift the podium.

At Milan-Cortina 2026, Mikael Kingsbury remained at the center of it.
